The ambition that I have had for a long time is to win a prize in the competition organized by our province’s calligraphy association. Chinese calligraphy is the writing of Chinese Characters as an art form, combining purely visual art and interpretation of the literary meaning. This type of expression has been widely practiced in my country and has been generally held in high esteem across East Asia.
我长久以来的一项追求是在我们省书法协会组织的比赛里赢得奖项。中国书法是汉字的一种艺术形式，结合了视觉艺术与文字含义。这种表达方式在我的国家十分常见，在整个东亚也有较高的声誉。
I have been practicing this skill ever since I was a child, and this ambition naturally emerged. At first, it was because of the order of my parents, who believed good handwriting could gain me advantages in academic exams and workplaces. This article is from Laokaoya website. But with time passing by, I gradually fell in love with the peaceful state when I held the brush and concentrated on every stoke of the characters. So even after I left my parents and went to other cities to receive an education, I did not give it up.

To be honest, I do not know when I can realize this goal, probably soon, probably never. The outcome largely depends on my progress and other participants’ level. Luckily, the competition is held annually. There is no registration fee or complex procedures. All the things participants needed to do was to send their work to the given address and leave their contact details. So, I can give it a try every year to see if I am qualified.

I have this ambition mainly because I want to get the recognition of other people, especially those professionals and precedents. After all, I have kept practicing for nearly 15 years with only several days’ break. It is time for the efforts to pay off.
