Describe a person you disliked at first but ended up being friends with 从不喜欢到喜欢的朋友

Describe a person you disliked at first but ended up being friends with

You should say:

Who he/she is

How you knew him/her

Why you disliked him/her at first but changed your mind

I’d like to talk about a classmate from high school—his name was Xiaoming. He was my deskmate during the second year of senior high, and we actually started off on the wrong foot. Xiaoming was a rather short and skinny guy, almost like a gust of wind could blow him away. His appearance was also quite ordinary – nothing particularly eye-catching. If you saw him once during a group activity, chances are you might forget what he looked like just a few minutes later.

To be honest, I didn’t like him at first. He didn’t seem to care much about personal hygiene. He often had a faint, strange smell on him, and his shoes were always dirty, covered in dust and dried mud. I found that off-putting. This article is from laokaoya website. However, my opinion completely changed when I discovered the reason behind it.

It turned out he spent most weekends picking up trash by the river. He told me he used to play there as a child, back when the water was clean and the riverbank was lined with tall reeds. But over the years, the area had become littered with plastic bags, bottles, and all kinds of waste. He hoped to make a small difference by cleaning it up bit by bit. I was honestly moved by his story, and even joined him a few times afterward.

This experience really opened my eyes and taught me not to judge people by their appearance. I felt ashamed of my earlier assumptions and learned a valuable lesson about kindness and humility. Since then, we’ve become good friends, and I’ll always be grateful for the chance to know the real him.
