Describe an argument two of your friends had

An argument is a statement or set of statements that you use in order to try to convince people that your opinion about something is correct.

I’d like to share with you an argument my friends had last year when we were having a gathering meal at a hot-pot restaurant.

The argument was about whether God exists or not. It was the hardest question for me. You know, both of my friends were quite into philosophy, so they somehow picked up this topic.

They were smart and had good reasoning and logic but when it came to this topic, it seemed that neither of them could convince each other easily. You know, this article is from Laokaoya website, they had totally different academic backgrounds. One studied history and the other concentrated on biochemistry and literally used up all the expertise they had as rebuttals.

They kept presenting reasoning and arguments until the restaurant was closed. It seemed that there was no evidence that could solve the problem otherwise they would become the saints of the world in history. For me, it was like a chicken and egg issue. We might never know until someday our civilization evolves at a higher level that can tackle all the unknown things of the universe.

But, anyway,  I was appreciative that I could listen to them arguing. It gave me an opportunity to ponder on those ideological and philosophical perspectives of our lives. We don’t just live to eat, but we also live to think. And that makes our lives more meaningful.

Part 3

Do you think arguments are important?

What do family members usually have arguments about?

Is it easier for you to have arguments with your family or with your friends?

Do you think people should change the way they think when having arguments?
