I’d like to talk about a boy who works in a small restaurant near my home. He looks around seventeen or eighteen, not very tall, but really strong. His wrists are about twice as thick as mine, and when he moves his arms, you can clearly see his muscles, as if he spends hours in the gym every day.
我想跟你聊聊在我家旁边一家餐厅里工作的男孩。他看起来大约17,18岁，身材不高，但异常壮实。他的手腕有我两倍粗，稍微一用力就能看到胳膊上的肌肉线条，就好像天天去健身房一样。
The place where he works is actually a noodle shop. Its main dish is Lanzhou hand-pulled noodles, though they also sell some other things. This article is from Laokaoya website. I’m not sure if you’ve ever tried it, but it’s totally different from Japanese ramen. The noodles usually come with thinly sliced beef and a special chili oil that smells amazing. Honestly, just talking about it makes my mouth water.

In the restaurant, his parents are the chefs, busy making bowl after bowl of delicious noodles. He, on the other hand, works as a waiter, taking orders and serving dishes. What really surprises me is that they don’t use any modern ordering system, not even pen and paper. They just rely on memory. I always wonder how he manages to remember everyone’s order without making mistakes.
饭馆里，他爸爸妈妈担任大厨，负责制作一碗碗美味的面条。而他则是服务员，负责点单和上菜。他们没有使用什么现代化的点单系统，甚至没有纸笔，而是完全依靠记忆。有时候我很好奇，他到底是怎么记住每个人点的东西而不出错的。
Once, I asked him why he chose to work in his family’s small shop instead of looking for a job in a big company. He told me he’s pretty satisfied with the current situation. The income is decent, the job isn’t too stressful, and he can leave on time every day. Most importantly, he can stay with his parents. Of course, sometimes there are little arguments, but overall, he feels it’s a happy and fulfilling life.
我曾经和他聊过为什么他愿意在这家小饭馆工作，而不是出去找个大公司上班。他说他对现状挺满意的，收入不错，而且也不是很忙，能够准时上下班。最重要的是能陪在父母身边。虽然偶尔会有争吵，但整体还是很幸福的。
