The person I’d like to talk about is my former university roommate, Kevin, who taught me how to cook. We lived together for three years, and he was probably the best cook among all my friends. While the rest of us survived on instant noodles and takeaway food, you know, he could whip up a proper meal with whatever ingredients happened to be in the fridge.

I became interested in cooking during our second year at university. I’d grown tired of eating the same things every day, and Kevin suggested that I learn a few simple dishes instead of constantly ordering food. This article is from Laokaoya webiste. He offered to teach me, starting with something relatively easy, like scrambled eggs with tomatoes.

At first, I was absolutely hopeless in the kitchen. You know, I couldn’t even chop vegetables properly, and I had a habit of turning the heat up too high. Kevin was incredibly patient, though. He would demonstrate each step, explain why certain ingredients needed to be added first, and then let me have a go myself. Whenever I messed something up, he’d simply laugh and show me how to fix it.

After a few weeks of practising, I could finally prepare several dishes without his help. I still remember how satisfying it felt when I cooked an entire dinner for our roommates and everyone actually enjoyed it. Since then, cooking has become something I genuinely enjoy rather than just a way to feed myself.

Well, what I appreciated most about Kevin was his patience and willingness to share what he knew. He never made me feel stupid for asking basic questions, and he always encouraged me to keep trying. Looking back, I’m really grateful to him because he didn’t just teach me a practical skill. He also gave me the confidence to try things I wasn’t naturally good at.
