A movie I watched recently that turned out to be a real disappointment was a thriller called Lost in the Woods. As the title suggests, it’s about a group of friends who go hiking in a remote forest and gradually realize that something is seriously wrong. They lose their way, strange things start happening around them, and before long, what was supposed to be an enjoyable trip turns into a fight for survival.

我最近看过的一部让我非常失望的电影是一部叫作《迷失森林》的惊悚片。顾名思义，它讲的是一群朋友前往偏远森林徒步旅行，却逐渐意识到事情有些不对劲。他们迷失了方向，周围开始发生各种奇怪的事情。没过多久，原本应该轻松愉快的旅行就变成了一场生存之战。

I decided to watch it mainly because I’d come across the trailer online a few days earlier, and it immediately caught my attention. I’m quite into suspense films, and the trailer made this one look genuinely gripping. There were shots of people running through a dark forest, mysterious figures appearing in the distance and plenty of dramatic music. It seemed like exactly the kind of film that would keep me on the edge of my seat, so I went into it with fairly high expectations.

我决定看这部电影，主要是因为几天前偶然在网上看到了它的预告片，并且一下子就被吸引住了。我本身就很喜欢悬疑电影，而预告片让这部电影看起来特别扣人心弦。里面有一群人在黑暗森林中奔跑的画面，远处若隐若现的神秘身影，还有大量充满戏剧性的音乐。它看起来完全就是那种能够让我全程保持紧张的电影，所以观看之前我的期待相当高。

Unfortunately, the film simply didn’t live up to the hype. My biggest problem with it was how predictable the storyline was. This article is from Laokaoya website. Almost every time the film tried to surprise the audience, I could see the plot twist coming a mile away. For example, whenever one of the characters wandered off alone, it was painfully obvious that something terrible was about to happen. After a while, the suspense started to wear off.

遗憾的是，这部电影完全没有达到我的预期。我最大的不满就是剧情实在太容易预测了。几乎每当电影试图给观众制造惊喜的时候，我都能早早猜到剧情反转。例如，只要其中某个角色独自离开队伍，就明显能感觉到接下来肯定会发生糟糕的事情。看了一段时间之后，那种悬念感也逐渐消失了。

Another thing that bothered me was that most of the characters were rather one-dimensional. I didn’t really understand their motivations, and some of their decisions made absolutely no sense. At one point, for instance, the group knew they were in danger but still decided to split up, which struck me as ridiculous. As a result, I found it difficult to become emotionally invested in what happened to them.

另外一个让我不满意的地方是，大多数角色都塑造得相当单薄。我并不能真正理解他们做事情的动机，而且他们的一些决定完全不合常理。比如有一个情节中，大家明明已经知道自己身处危险，却仍然决定分头行动，我觉得这简直莫名其妙。因此，我很难真正关心这些角色后来会发生什么。

To make matters worse, the middle section seemed to drag on forever. There were a few tense moments, but they were separated by long stretches in which practically nothing happened. By the time the ending finally came around, I’d more or less lost interest. Overall, it wasn’t the worst film I’ve ever seen, but considering how promising the trailer had looked, the movie itself fell well short of my expectations.

更糟糕的是，电影中间部分感觉特别拖沓。虽然确实有几个比较紧张的情节，但它们之间夹杂着很长一段几乎什么都没有发生的内容。等到电影终于迎来结局的时候，我基本上已经失去了兴趣。总体而言，它并不是我看过最差的电影，但考虑到预告片之前给我的期待，电影本身确实远远没有达到我的预期。
