在人物类口语回答中,不少考生只会说:“He is very successful because he works very hard.”

Part 2

描述教师或公益人士时,则可使用“make a difference”“dedicated”和“earn respect”。

Part 3

考生应把人物词汇转化为概括性表达,例如:“Resilient people tend to recover from failure more quickly.”

1. ambitious

She has always been ambitious, even when she was still at university.

What I admire most is that he is ambitious without being overly competitive.

常见搭配:highly ambitious, an ambitious goal, ambitious for the future。

不要把“有野心”直译成“have a big ambition”,说“be ambitious”或“have ambitious goals”更自然。

2. driven

He is incredibly driven and rarely gives up on a goal.

She is a driven individual who constantly looks for ways to improve.

常见搭配:highly driven, career-driven, driven by curiosity。

注意不要说“he is very drive”,因为这里需要形容词driven。

3. disciplined

She is disciplined enough to practise every morning before work.

His success is largely due to the fact that he is extremely disciplined.

常见搭配:highly disciplined, a disciplined approach, remain disciplined。

4. persistent

She was persistent and eventually persuaded the company to support her idea.

He faced repeated rejection, but his persistent attitude helped him succeed.

常见搭配:persistent effort, persistent in doing something, remain persistent。

5. resilient

She is resilient and tends to recover quickly after a disappointment.

What sets him apart is his ability to stay resilient in difficult situations.

6. conscientious

She is conscientious and always checks her work carefully.

He earned the trust of his colleagues because he was conscientious and reliable.

常见搭配:a conscientious employee, conscientious about one’s work。

7. down-to-earth

Despite her success, she is surprisingly down-to-earth.

I look up to him because he is accomplished but still very down-to-earth.

常见搭配:remain down-to-earth, a down-to-earth person, a down-to-earth attitude。

不要把它理解为“住在地面上”,也不要写成“down to the earth”。

8. humble

She remained humble after winning the award.

Although he has achieved a great deal, he never brags about it and remains humble.

9. visionary

Many people regard her as a visionary in the technology industry.

He was visionary enough to recognise the potential of online education early on.

常见搭配:a visionary leader, visionary thinking, widely regarded as a visionary。

10. innovative

The company became successful because of its innovative approach.

What makes her stand out is her ability to develop innovative solutions to everyday problems.

常见搭配:an innovative idea, an innovative approach, highly innovative。

“He has many innovations”不如“He comes up with innovative ideas”自然。

11. resourceful

He is resourceful and can usually find a practical solution.

When the project ran out of money, she proved how resourceful she was.

常见搭配:highly resourceful, a resourceful problem-solver, resourceful enough to do something。

12. adaptable

Successful managers need to be adaptable when circumstances change.

She stayed relevant in a changing industry because she was highly adaptable.

常见搭配:highly adaptable, adaptable to change, an adaptable workforce。

可替换表达:flexible, open to change。

13. decisive

A good leader has to be decisive in a crisis.

He is successful partly because he is decisive and willing to take responsibility.

常见搭配:a decisive leader, take decisive action, remain decisive。

为了体现成熟观点,可以补充“after considering the available evidence”。

14. charismatic

She is a charismatic speaker who can hold an audience’s attention.

His charismatic personality helped him bring a diverse team together.

常见搭配:a charismatic leader, naturally charismatic, charismatic personality。

15. entrepreneurial

She showed an entrepreneurial spirit from an early age.

His entrepreneurial mindset allowed him to turn a small idea into a viable business.

16. have a knack for something

这是比“be good at”更生动的口语搭配。

She has a knack for explaining complicated ideas in simple terms.

He has a knack for spotting opportunities that other people overlook.

常见搭配:have a knack for business, have a knack for solving problems。

使用提醒:for后接名词或动名词,不能说“a knack to do something”。

17. set clear goals

I tend to work more efficiently when I set clear goals.

One reason for her success is that she sets clear goals and reviews them regularly.

常见搭配:set achievable goals, pursue a goal, work towards a goal。

使用提醒:“make a goal”是常见搭配错误,通常应说“set a goal”。

18. go the extra mile

She always goes the extra mile to help her clients.

He built a loyal customer base because he was willing to go the extra mile.

常见搭配:go the extra mile for someone, be willing to go the extra mile。

19. overcome obstacles

They had to overcome several financial obstacles.

She overcame numerous obstacles before establishing her own company.

常见搭配:overcome major obstacles, overcome difficulties, face an obstacle。

20. bounce back from failure

It took him a while to bounce back from the disappointment.

What impressed me most was how quickly she bounced back from failure.

常见搭配:bounce back quickly, bounce back from a setback, make a comeback。

21. take calculated risks

Good business owners take calculated risks rather than acting impulsively.

She was prepared to take calculated risks when expanding into a new market.

常见搭配:be willing to take calculated risks, assess the risks, minimise risk。

22. seize an opportunity

He seized the opportunity to work overseas.

Her career took off after she seized an opportunity to lead a major project.

常见搭配:seize a rare opportunity, create opportunities, miss an opportunity。

使用提醒:口语中“take an opportunity”可以理解,但“seize an opportunity”更强调及时抓住机会。

23. achieve a breakthrough

The team achieved a major breakthrough after years of research.

She achieved her first major breakthrough when one of her designs received national attention.

常见搭配:a major breakthrough, make a breakthrough, a technological breakthrough。

24. build a solid reputation

The restaurant has built a solid reputation for quality.

Over the years, he built a solid reputation as a reliable and creative architect.

常见搭配:earn a reputation, have a reputation for, damage one’s reputation。

使用提醒:说某人“以某事闻名”时,用“have a reputation for doing something”,不要说“have a reputation of doing”。

25. make a meaningful contribution

She wants to make a meaningful contribution to her community.

I consider him successful because he has made a meaningful contribution to public education.

常见搭配:make a contribution to, a valuable contribution, contribute to society。

26. earn someone’s respect

She earned the respect of her colleagues through years of consistent work.

He earned my respect because he admitted his mistakes and learned from them.

27. set a good example

Parents should set a good example for their children.

By treating every employee fairly, she set a good example for other managers.

常见搭配:set an example for, follow someone’s example, lead by example。

使用提醒:不要说“make a good example”。

28. leave a lasting impact

Her advice left a lasting impact on me.

Although he retired years ago, his work has left a lasting impact on the industry.

常见搭配:have an impact on, make an impact, a lasting impact。

使用提醒:impact后接on,不说“an impact to me”。

下面以“Describe a successful person you admire”为例。

Sample answer:

I’d like to talk about my aunt, who runs a small education company in my hometown. I admire her not simply because she owns a successful business, but because of the way she built it.

She started out as an English teacher and noticed that many children in rural areas had limited access to good learning materials. She had a clear goal of making practical courses more widely available. At the beginning, she had very little funding, but she was extremely resourceful. She worked with a small group of teachers and made the most of the equipment they already had.

What makes her stand out is that she is both ambitious and down-to-earth. She wants the company to grow, but she still teaches classes occasionally and listens to students’ feedback. She is also highly disciplined. Even when she has a busy schedule, she sets aside time to review the quality of the courses.

Her journey wasn’t always smooth. One of her early projects failed because it was too expensive to maintain. Instead of blaming her team, she analysed the problem and managed to bounce back from that failure. Later, she took a few calculated risks and developed shorter online courses. That decision helped the company reach more learners.

To me, her greatest achievement is not the money she has made. It is the meaningful contribution she has made to education. She has also earned the respect of her employees because she leads by example. Her experience has had a lasting impact on me and taught me that success should be measured by both personal achievement and social value.

Why are some people more successful than others?

回答时不要只给出“because they work hard”。

Sample answer: I think success usually results from a combination of personal qualities and external opportunities. People who are disciplined and adaptable are more likely to keep improving when circumstances change. However, effort alone is not always enough. Access to education, professional networks and financial support can also determine whether someone is able to seize an opportunity.

Is money the best measure of success?

Sample answer: Money is one indicator of professional success, but I don’t think it is the best or only measure. A teacher may not earn an exceptional salary, but they can make a meaningful contribution to hundreds of students. I would also consider personal fulfilment, social impact and the ability to earn other people’s respect.

Should successful people help society?

Sample answer: I believe successful people should contribute when they have the means to do so, although the contribution does not always have to be financial. They can mentor younger people, support useful projects or set a good example through responsible behaviour. At the same time, society should not assume that every successful person has unlimited resources.

使用“tend to”“are more likely to”“to some extent”“not always”等限定语,通常比堆砌生僻形容词更能体现准确性。

“He is successful because he is very rich”可以作为信息的一部分,但不宜成为唯一解释。 这样也更容易使用“build a reputation”“make a contribution”和“leave an impact”等表达。

“She is ambitious, determined, persistent, resilient, diligent and conscientious”

She is very persistent and resilient.

She was rejected several times, but she remained persistent and eventually found another way to fund the project.

  • 错误:make a goal。正确:set a goal
  • 错误:do a contribution。正确:make a contribution
  • 错误:overcome over difficulties。正确:overcome difficulties
  • 错误:have an impact to society。正确:have an impact on society
  • 错误:a knack to solve problems。正确:a knack for solving problems

常见错误包括“He has very resilient”和“She is an ambition person”。正确说法分别是“He is very resilient”以及“She is an ambitious person”。

“go the extra mile”和“bounce back”都很适合口语,但一句话连续放入多个习语,会产生明显的背诵感。

不要单独背resilient,应同时记“remain resilient”和“bounce back from failure”。不要只背reputation,应掌握“build a solid reputation”和“have a reputation for”。
例如,disciplined对应“She follows a strict training schedule even during holidays.”
例如,把“He is resilient”改成“Resilient employees may adapt to workplace changes more effectively.”

Part 3

例如,不只说“My uncle is adaptable”,而要说“Adaptable people are often better equipped to deal with changes in the job market.”
