The person I’d like to talk about is a man called Mr Wang, who’s in his early fifties and runs a volunteer association in my city. He’s tall and slim and almost always has a smile on his face. What struck me when I first met him was how approachable he was. Despite being in charge of the whole organization, he never came across as distant or authoritative, and he seemed genuinely interested in the people around him.

我想说的人是王先生。他五十岁出头，是我们城市一家志愿者协会的负责人。他身材高瘦，脸上几乎总是带着笑容。第一次见到他的时候，最让我印象深刻的就是他非常平易近人。虽然负责整个协会，但他从来不会给人一种高高在上或者难以接近的感觉，而且似乎真心关心身边的人。

I first met him when I applied to join the association. It was quite a well-known volunteer group in my city, so they were fairly selective about who they accepted, and Mr Wang happened to be one of the people interviewing me. Later, at a welcome event, we discovered that we lived in the same neighborhood and that he even knew my father. That gave us something in common and, over time, I gradually got to know him better.

我第一次见到他是在申请加入这个志愿者协会的时候。它在我们城市里还挺有名，因此在招募志愿者的时候会进行一定的筛选，而王先生恰好是当时面试我的人之一。后来在一次迎新活动中，我们发现彼此住在同一个小区，而且他甚至还认识我父亲。这让我们一下子有了共同话题，随着时间推移，我也逐渐对他有了更多了解。

Most of the things we do together are related to volunteering. For example, I’ve joined him on visits to a school for children with hearing impairments, where we played games and spent time with the students. We’ve also visited a nursing home to chat with elderly residents and help out with some simple chores. This article is from Laokaoya website. Another activity I particularly enjoy is going to a local animal shelter, where we help the staff clean the place and take care of the dogs.

What I admire most about Mr Wang is that he leads by example. He doesn’t just sit in an office and tell other volunteers what to do. You know, he gets personally involved in these activities and devotes a great deal of his own time to them. I’ve seen him go out of his way to talk to someone who was feeling lonely or stay behind after an event to help clean everything up. None of these things is particularly dramatic, but I think it’s precisely these small actions that show how sincere he is about helping others.

我最佩服王先生的一点是，他总是以身作则。他并不是坐在办公室里安排其他志愿者去做事情，而是会亲自参与这些活动，并为此投入大量自己的时间。我见过他特意花时间陪一个感到孤独的人聊天，也见过他在活动结束之后留下来帮助大家收拾东西。这些事情本身可能都算不上惊天动地，但我觉得恰恰是这些小事体现出了他帮助别人时的真诚。

I really look up to him because he’s shown me that you don’t have to do something extraordinary to make a tangible difference to other people’s lives. Sometimes simply giving up a few hours of your own time can make someone feel cared for and less alone. I hope that when I’m his age, I’ll still be willing to give something back to the community rather than focusing entirely on myself. That’s probably the quality I admire most about him.

我真的很敬佩他，因为他让我意识到，想要真正给别人的生活带来一些积极的改变，并不一定非得做什么惊天动地的事情。有时候，仅仅拿出自己的几个小时，就能够让别人感受到关心，不再那么孤独。我希望自己到了他这个年纪的时候，也仍然愿意为身边的社区做一些事情，而不是把所有注意力都放在自己身上。这可能就是我最佩服他的品质。
