Do you like science? 你喜欢自然科学吗？

Yes, I do. I love science because it helps me understand why things happen in the natural world. For example, it explains why we see lightning before we hear thunder and how things like solar eclipses happen. I’ve always been quite curious about things like that, so I find science really interesting.

是的，我喜欢。我喜欢科学，因为它能帮助我理解自然界中的各种现象为什么会发生。比如，它可以解释为什么我们总是先看到闪电再听到雷声，以及日食这样的现象是如何发生的。我一直对这类问题很好奇，所以觉得科学很有意思。

When did you start learning about science? 你什么时候开始了解自然科学的？

I think I first started learning about it in primary school. We had a subject simply called Science, and it introduced us to some very basic ideas from physics, chemistry, biology, and a few other areas. We didn’t learn anything particularly complicated at that age. I think the main purpose was just to get us interested in how the world works.

我觉得自己应该是从小学开始接触自然科学的。当时我们有一门课就叫“科学”，里面会介绍一些物理、化学、生物以及其他领域的基础知识。那个年纪我们并不会学习特别复杂的内容，我觉得这门课的主要目的就是让我们开始对世界如何运转产生兴趣。

Which science subject is interesting to you? 你觉得哪一门科学课程有意思？

I’d probably say chemistry. I especially enjoyed doing experiments at school because it was fascinating to mix different substances together and see what happened. Sometimes there would be a change in color or some other reaction that you could actually see. This article is from Laokaoya website. It almost felt like magic when I was younger, even though obviously there was a scientific explanation behind it.

我可能会选化学。我以前在学校尤其喜欢做化学实验，因为把不同的物质混合在一起，然后观察会发生什么，是一件很有意思的事情。有时候会出现颜色变化或者其他能够直接看到的反应。小时候我甚至觉得这有点像魔法，当然现在知道这些现象背后其实都有科学原理。

What kinds of interesting things have you done with science? 你用科学做过什么有趣的事情？

One thing I remember doing was making a sky lantern. It works on a similar principle to a hot-air balloon, with hot air causing it to rise into the sky. I also wrote a few wishes on a small piece of paper to go with it. I knew that part wasn’t exactly scientific, of course, but it made the whole experience much more memorable.

我记得自己曾经做过一个孔明灯。它的原理和热气球有些类似，利用热空气让它升到空中。当时我还在一张小纸条上写了几个愿望放在里面。当然，我知道许愿这部分跟科学没有什么关系，不过它确实让整段经历变得更加难忘。
