An expensive gift I’d really like to save up for is a MacBook Pro. It’s definitely beyond what I can afford on the spur of the moment, so I’d have to put money aside for several months before I could actually buy one.

一件我非常想攒钱购买的贵重礼物是一台MacBook Pro。它的价格显然超出了我能够临时拿出钱来购买的范围，所以我需要连续攒上几个月的钱才能真正买得起。

I’d like to give it to my girlfriend, who has recently taken up making short videos as a side job. She shoots and edits quite a lot of content for platforms such as Douyin and YouTube, so having a decent computer makes an enormous difference to her work. The problem is that she’s still using a laptop she bought about six years ago. It used to work perfectly well, but it’s really starting to show its age. Video-editing software takes ages to load, and the computer occasionally freezes when she’s working with large files.

More importantly, it’s something she would actually use on a daily basis rather than an expensive present that simply looks impressive.

I’d probably need about five months to save up enough money. Fortunately, I have a part-time job, so I can set aside a certain amount from my earnings every month. I’d also have to tighten my belt a little by cutting back on things I don’t really need, such as eating out, buying clothes on impulse and ordering takeaway too often. It would take some self-discipline, but I think the end result would be well worth it.

Ideally, I’d wrap the laptop up like an ordinary birthday present and give it to her without dropping any hints beforehand. I’d love to see the look on her face when she opens it. For me, that reaction would make all those months of saving worthwhile.
