The place I’d like to talk about is a train station I went to several years ago during the Spring Festival travel rush. At the time, I was studying at university in another city and had just finished my final exams. I was really looking forward to going home and spending the Spring Festival with my family, so I packed my suitcase and took the subway to the railway station on my own.
我想说的是几年前春运期间我去过的一座火车站。当时我正在另外一座城市上大学，而且刚刚结束期末考试。我特别期待回家和家人一起过春节，所以收拾好行李之后，就一个人坐地铁去了火车站。
The moment I got out of the subway station, I was taken aback by the sheer number of people there. I knew railway stations were normally busy at that time of year, but this was on a completely different scale. The entrance hall was absolutely packed, and people were jostling their way through the crowd with suitcases and huge bags. This article is from Laokaoya website. At one point, I went up to the second floor and looked across the main hall, and all I could see was a sea of heads. I’d honestly never seen so many people crammed into one place before.
我一走出地铁站，就被眼前庞大的人群震惊了。我知道每年这个时候火车站通常都会很繁忙，但当天的情况完全是另外一个级别。进站大厅里挤满了人，大家拖着行李箱、背着大包，在人群中艰难地往前走。有一会儿我走到二楼，朝下面的大厅望过去，视线里几乎全是密密麻麻的人头。说实话，我以前从来没有见过这么多人挤在同一个地方。
After squeezing my way through the crowd, I eventually found out what was going on. There had been heavy snow and freezing temperatures in the area, which had disrupted rail services. Quite a few trains had been delayed or cancelled for safety reasons, so thousands of passengers were stranded at the station waiting for further information.
我在人群中好不容易挤过去之后，终于弄明白发生了什么。当地之前出现了大雪和持续低温，对铁路运行造成了影响。相当一部分列车出于安全原因被延误或者取消，因此数千名乘客滞留在火车站里，等待进一步的消息。
People were doing all sorts of things to kill time. Some were staring anxiously at the departure boards, hoping their train number would finally appear. Others were queuing at the ticket counters, making phone calls to their families or simply sitting on their suitcases because every seat had already been taken. There were announcements coming over the loudspeakers every few minutes, and whenever there was an update, you could see people immediately checking whether it had anything to do with their train.
为了打发时间，人们做什么的都有。有些人焦急地盯着列车信息屏，希望自己的车次终于能够出现；有些人在售票窗口前排队，还有人在给家人打电话。由于所有座位早就被占满了，不少人干脆直接坐在自己的行李箱上。广播几乎每隔几分钟就会响起，而每当有新的消息，人群都会立刻查看是不是和自己的车次有关。
I remember feeling pretty frustrated because there wasn’t really anywhere to sit down or even get away from the crowd. Every corner seemed to be occupied, and dragging a suitcase through the station was exhausting. I considered going back to university, but I was worried that I might miss an announcement or that my train might suddenly start boarding, so I decided to stay put.
我记得自己当时相当郁闷，因为不仅找不到地方坐下来，甚至都没有办法暂时避开人群。火车站的每个角落似乎都被占满了，拖着行李箱在人群中移动也非常累。我一度考虑过先回学校，但又担心错过通知，或者自己的列车突然开始检票，所以最后还是决定留在原地。
Fortunately, after about five hours, my train finally departed. I was exhausted by then, but also incredibly relieved because I knew I was finally on my way home. So although it wasn’t exactly a pleasant experience, it definitely left a lasting impression on me. Whenever someone mentions a crowded place, that packed railway station is still the first image that springs to mind.
幸运的是，大约五个小时之后，我的列车终于发车了。当时我已经筋疲力尽，但同时也特别如释重负，因为我知道自己终于踏上了回家的路。所以，尽管这算不上什么愉快的经历，但它确实给我留下了非常深刻的印象。直到现在，每当有人提到拥挤的地方，那座人满为患的火车站仍然是我脑海中最先浮现出来的画面。
