I’d like to talk about an interesting building I saw in Shanghai called Jing’an Temple. It was during last summer vacation when I went to Shanghai for a trip. Coming from a small city, I was really amazed by Shanghai — the busy streets, the tall skyscrapers, and all kinds of shops made me feel both excited and a little overwhelmed. One day, while wandering around downtown, I suddenly came across Jing’an Temple.

我想跟你聊聊的有趣建筑是位于上海的静安寺。那是去年暑假的时候，我到上海旅游。作为一个来自小城市的青少年，上海繁华的生活、林立的高楼、和各种商品都让我眼花缭乱，甚至迷失其中。这天，就当我在上海市中心闲逛的时候，我突然发现了静安寺。

The temple is surrounded by modern high-rise buildings, and its traditional architecture really stands out against all the steel and concrete. Like most Chinese temples, it has grey walls, a yellow roof, and bright red doors. Interestingly, the pagoda inside has some Tibetan Buddhist features, and when sunlight hits it, it shines golden, as if it were made of real gold.

它被一众高楼大厦所包围，传统的建筑风格和木制结构与周围的钢筋水泥形成强烈对比。就像中国大多数寺庙一样，它有着灰色的墙壁，黄色的屋顶，和朱红色的大门。有趣的是，寺里的塔楼有点藏传佛教的风格，在阳光下的照射下散发着金光，仿佛由金子筑成。

I didn’t hesitate to buy a ticket and go inside. According to the information on the walls, Jing’an Temple dates back to around 200 AD and got its current name about a thousand years ago, making it the oldest Buddhist temple in Shanghai. This article is from laokaoya website. Although most of the current buildings are relatively modern, they preserve the style of the Ming dynasty very well.

毫不犹豫地，我买了门票走了进去。根据墙壁上的介绍，静安寺的历史最早可以追溯到公元200年左右，在大约1000多年前更换成现在的名字，是上海市最古老的佛寺。虽然现在的建筑大多数是现代修建的，但它很好的还原了明朝的风格。

I think Jing’an Temple is really interesting mainly because it’s so different from its surroundings. In the middle of bustling, modern Shanghai, there’s this quiet and peaceful place. Once you step inside, it feels like the whole world slows down, and all the noise and rush of city life fade away. That contrast between tradition and modernity really impressed me.

我觉得静安寺很有意思，主要是因为它与周边的环境格格不入。在繁华、现代的上海市中心隐藏着一个如此宁静的存在。走进去仿佛整个世界都安静下来了，俗世的忙碌都被抛在一边。这种传统与现代的对比让我印象深刻。
