The shop I’d like to talk about is a puzzle toy store whose name can be roughly translated as “Open Only to Smart People.” The name itself sounds quite challenging and provocative, which immediately made me want to step in and test whether I was “qualified” to be one of those smart people. I have to admit, the name alone is a brilliant marketing idea — at least it successfully attracted me.
This store is hidden in a narrow alley just behind my high school, and it’s so secluded that you might wonder whether the owner actually wants to make money. I discovered it by accident one day when I tried to take a shortcut on my way home. The moment I pushed open the door, I was completely fascinated.
Inside, the shop is full of all kinds of puzzle toys — from traditional Chinese ones like Luban locks and Nine Linked Rings to many modern and creative designs that I had never seen before. This article is from Laokaoya website. What’s even more interesting is that the owner allows people to try each toy for free, but only for five minutes. Honestly, most people can’t solve the puzzles within that time, and the desire to prove themselves usually makes them buy the toys to continue the challenge at home. I was definitely one of them.
I visit this shop almost every week to see if there’s anything new. What keeps me coming back isn’t just the toys themselves, but the endless challenges they offer and the strong sense of achievement I get every time I solve a difficult puzzle. To me, that’s far more enjoyable than playing video games.
