Have you ever seen some old buildings in the city? 你曾经在城市中看到过古老建筑吗？

Yes, plenty of them. I currently live in Luoyang, which is an ancient city with a history of several thousand years and served as the capital of several Chinese dynasties. There are lots of historical buildings and sites around the city, and quite a few of them have been restored and preserved. They’re also a major reason why so many tourists come to Luoyang.

见过很多。我目前住在洛阳，这是一座拥有数千年历史的古城，也曾经是中国多个朝代的都城。城里有很多历史建筑和遗址，其中不少都得到了修复和保护。它们也是很多游客来到洛阳的重要原因。

Do you think we should preserve old buildings in cities? 你认为我们应该保护城市里的古老建筑吗？

I think it depends on the building. If a building has real historical, cultural, or architectural value, then I definitely think it should be protected. This article is from Laokaoya website. But I don’t think every old building needs to be preserved simply because it’s old. Cities also need space for housing and other facilities, so sometimes a balance has to be found between preservation and development.

我觉得这取决于具体的建筑。如果一座建筑确实具有重要的历史、文化或者建筑价值，那么我肯定认为应该保护它。但我并不觉得一座建筑仅仅因为年代久远就一定要被保留下来。城市还需要住宅以及其他设施，所以有时候需要在保护古建筑和城市发展之间找到一个平衡。

Do you prefer living in an old building or a modern house? 你喜欢住在古老的建筑里还是现代的房子里？

Definitely a modern house. Old buildings can be beautiful and full of character, but they don’t always have the facilities I’d want in everyday life. For example, some may have poor heating or outdated plumbing. A modern home is usually much more comfortable and convenient, and it may also have things like better insulation and smart home devices.

肯定是现代住宅。古老建筑可能很漂亮，也很有特色，但它们不一定拥有我日常生活中需要的各种设施。比如，有些老建筑的供暖条件可能比较差，管道设施也可能比较老旧。现代住宅通常住起来更加舒适方便，而且还可能拥有更好的保温条件以及智能家居设备。

Are there any old buildings you want to see in the future? Why? 有什么未来你想去看的古老建筑吗？为什么？

Yes, I’d really like to visit the Summer Palace in Beijing. I’ve read about it quite a few times in textbooks, and I’ve also seen lots of pictures of its traditional buildings, lakes, and gardens. I’ve never actually been there myself, though, so I’d love to see what it looks like in person rather than just reading about it or seeing it in photos.
